Blue Water Cruising
Our sailing habits vary. Some people sail in protected, safe home waters, and others set out on longer voyages perhaps to our Nordic neighbouring countries, or to the Baltic countries, the North Sea coast or to The Mediterranean. On the other hand, still others set off for much longer journeys and for a great length of time perhaps even sailing around the world.
Long voyages with an OE 32
DThe long-keeled OE 32 is designed for sailing in the open sea under tough conditions. At the same time the boat because of its moderate draught is especially suitable for canal journeys. It is therefore not so surprising that many OE 32s sail in the Mediterranean after travelling there via the German and French canals.
The OE 32 "Baloo" in Yachting World
The magazine, Yachting World, established in 1894, is the worlds oldest sailing magazine. In the issue in November 2002 there is an article about blue water cruising with an OE 32 called "Baloo", owned and sailed by 30 year old Anders Nyberg
The article came about after a letter to the editor of the magazine. A reader had complained that the greatest number of the magazines reports about ocean sailing featured very large yachts owned by wealthy people who were able to afford new boats and every imaginable piece of equipment for them. So the magazine published an article about an OE 32 (Baloo) and described it as "this attractive 32ft Olle Enderlein cutter ... a well-balanced long-keeled boat with good load-carrying ability and, despite her relatively short LOA, can cover distances quite quickly and with easy motion."
Anders Nyberg has sailed "Baloo" to Inverness in Scotland, via the Caledonian Canal, around Ireland to the Canary Islands, Cape Verdes Islands, across the Atlantic to Guadaloupe, in the Caribbean and on to Martinique. He joined the Yachting World ARC Europé and sailed from the Azores to Plymouth, the Hebrides and Shetland before returning to Sweden. In total, he has sailed 9500 nautical miles in less than three years.
Unfortunately, the article is not available on the internet but the magazine can be bought at well-stocked shops all over the world.

During correspondence between the OE Club and the editor of Yachting World, he later wrote the following flattering words about the OE 32 Baloos participation in the Yachting World ARC:
"Baloo was a particularly effective cruising yacht in my personal view and was exceptional in that she had a very short 'problems' list!"
Around the world with the OE 36 "Liva"
The OE 36 is also a boat that is very well suited for blue water cruising. This can be confirmed by Jan and Birgitta Nogéus who have seen much of the world by sailing with their OE 36 "Liva of Ulebergshamn". Jan and Gunilla Nogéus began sailing in 1971 have travelled more than 140,000 nautical miles and had many adventures after a round world trip visiting over thirty countries. Their exciting experiences have been gathered together in a number of colourful illustrated lectures which can be ordered for viewing for either your company or your association.
All of the lectures have an inherent connection to the sea and have interesting insights from their shore visits in different cultures along their route. It is intended for both the sea dog and the land lubber, which means that those who are eager travellers, or have an interest in other cultures and foods can enjoy these lectures.
"The Pacific Expedition" is the biggest and most well known of Jan and Gunillas adventures. The goal was to visit remote secure places in the Pacific from New Zealand in the south to Alaska in the north and from Japan in the west to the Galapagos Islands in the east. This took 5 1/2 years to accomplish this project which reached its successful completion in August 1999. From the large number of photographs, they have produced four memorable illustrated lectures.

Around the World with the OE 36 "Elvina"
Our members Gunilla and Krister Bewert aged 35, and 36 respectively from Kristinehamn are planning to go on a longer sailing trip with their OE 36 "Elvina", more precisely, to go around the world. The estimated departure is happening in June 2003
Gunilla tells here about their extensive preparations.
